Therapy & Intervention for Children, Teens & Adults Exhibiting Harmful or Misaligned Sexual Behaviors
When Sexual Behavior Crosses Boundaries, It Requires More Than Punishment — It Requires Understanding, Treatment & Guidance
It’s one of the most difficult conversations a parent or caregiver can face: discovering a child or teen has acted out sexually inappropriately — toward a peer, sibling, or in unsafe ways. For adults, the stakes may be even higher, involving relationships, court systems, or employment risk.
At Neubauer Mental Health Services (NMHS), we provide specialized, nonjudgmental outpatient therapy for individuals exhibiting inappropriate sexual behavior (ISB). Our goal is to help clients and families understand the behavior, address its underlying causes, and develop safe, respectful, and age-appropriate boundaries through research-based intervention.

What Is Considered Inappropriate Sexual Behavior?
ISB refers to sexual actions or expressions that are:
- Outside of what’s developmentally appropriate
- Harmful to others or non-consensual
- Coercive, manipulative, or boundary-violating
- Repeated despite redirection or consequences
- Related to exposure to pornography, trauma, or sexual abuse
- In violation of school, family, or legal expectations
This may involve children “acting out,” teens with blurred understanding of boundaries, or adults struggling with compulsive or high-risk behaviors.
Who This Service Is For
We work with:
- Children and adolescents displaying early signs of boundary violations
- Youth with sexual behavior problems related to trauma, neurodivergence, or exposure
- Court-involved teens or adults required to receive assessment or treatment
- Families navigating complex relational impacts or supervision concerns
- Individuals seeking help voluntarily, before further harm occurs
Early, therapeutic intervention is key to preventing escalation and supporting rehabilitation.

How NMHS Supports Clients & Families
Treatment is individualized and may include:
Psychoeducation about healthy sexuality and consent
Developmentally appropriate language and strategies
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for impulse control and thinking patterns
Family therapy for safety planning, structure, and accountability
Emotion regulation and coping skill development
Court-ordered assessments and compliance documentation (when applicable)
Trauma-informed support if abuse history is present
We do not shame or label clients. We focus on responsibility, insight, behavior change, and healing.
Support for Parents and Caregivers
If your child or teen is displaying ISB, you may feel afraid, angry, or unsure how to protect others while helping your child. We help you:
- Understand what’s happening — and why
- Set and enforce boundaries with consistency
- Supervise and structure home routines
- Manage legal, school, or CPS communication
- Begin family healing if harm has occurred in the home
